President Avrum opened the meeting

Land Recognition. Avrum

National Anthem: Arthur

Toast to King, Canada, and Rotary. Avrum

9 Members were Present, and Michael Conway from Agincourt Club – no other guests.

Speaker.
As we had no speaker today, Avrum gave us his thoughts on fundraising for the club.

An idea that John Ramdeen had given us of having a dinner event with a keynote speaker. If 15 members attended with their spouses/guests (30 people) and each invited two couples (60 people), that would be a total of 90. We could do this in partnership with SCRO (Scarborough Renewal Organisation); we could perhaps get a total of 200 people at $100 p/p, which would be $20,000. This would obviously be a lot of work, but we are holding until about a year from now.

Other suggestions. Avrum has been in contact with our new member, Vijay, who may have some ideas. At an appropriate time, Danny will try and get a furnace to put up for auction.

Announcements:

Avrum reminded us of the Foundation Walk on October 15th.

Sergeant-at-Arms.
Alan was going to fine any member who wasn't at the DG meeting last week. Most of the members in attendance were there, so not many fines were collected.
Happy bucks. Gordon was happy that the Canadian women's football team beat Jamaica on Tuesday and, in doing so, qualified for the Olympics next year to defend their title. Gerd was happy he had a good trip to Prince Edward Island. Barry was celebrating his 48th wedding anniversary – he donated $50 to get a tax receipt.

President Avrum closed the meeting with a quote from Simone de Beauvoir: (She was a French philosopher and writer.)
"That's what I consider true generosity: You give your all, and yet you feel as if it costs you nothing."
