Guest Speaker – Linda Ryder: Vulnerable Persons Protection
Linda is a long-standing and highly experienced Rotarian who has served Rotary in many leadership roles, including Club President, Assistant Governor and District Governor.
For nearly ten years, Linda has also served as District 7070 Vulnerable Persons Protection Officer, helping clubs understand and meet Rotary’s responsibilities for safeguarding youth, seniors and vulnerable individuals.
Linda brings a wealth of Rotary experience and a strong commitment to protecting and supporting others, and we are very pleased to have her with us today.
Linda spoke to the club about her long involvement with Rotary and her role as District Vulnerable Persons Protection Officer, a position she has held for nearly ten years. She explained Rotary’s responsibility to protect youth, seniors and people with disabilities from all forms of abuse, and reviewed the procedures that must be followed when concerns are reported.
Linda also discussed Vulnerable Persons Police Checks, which must be renewed every three years, and provided guidance on how members can obtain them. She will provide Basil with the Toronto Police application information.
Linda also shared a current case involving two Rotarians whose attempt to transfer clubs became difficult and ultimately resulted in them leaving Rotary. The discussion reinforced the importance of making members feel welcome and supporting their continued involvement in Rotary, regardless of which club they choose to join.

President Basil:
On Tuesday, August 4, 2026, Basil and Danny attended the Chinese Cultural Center of Greater Toronto, where they were each presented with a Canada Strong Medal and a certificate by MP for North Scarborough Shaun Chen for outstanding contributions to help in building a Strong Canada.
Basil: The foundation walk this year will be in Cambleford on September 27th. This is a great opportunity to meet fellow members from different clubs in a beautiful setting.
Basil: We are looking for items for the gala to put on the silent auction table or for Dave to auction off.
Barry didn't fine anyone, but there were happy Bucks.
Dhanni was happy to be back home.
Arthur was just happy.
