Jamal was introduced by Dave Hardy, and then the Induction Committee made their presentations to Jamal.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Courtney gave a rundown on Rotary and the importance of growing our membership so that we can continue our work in the community and worldwide. Rocco then explained the Objects of Rotary, and Gordon recited the 4-Way Test. Gerd then stepped in to pin Jamal.

Jamal thanked the committee, acknowledged Rotary’s good work, and shared that he was humbled by being accepted into such a prestigious organization. Jamal next outlined his background for the members and guests present. Jamal explained that he had been born and raised in Scarborough, but moved to New York City for 7 ½ years to work as a corporate lawyer. Not feeling fulfilled in N.Y.C., Jamal moved back to Scarborough in 2018 and took a year off work to volunteer as a community organizer. Jamal noted that, although a lot of communities are diverse, Scarborough has managed to integrate diversity. Scarborough has developed its own identity, and Jamal is proud to represent Scarborough on the City Council.

President Avrum welcomed Jamal to the club and presented him with his member’s badge.

Arthur announced that the Paul Harris Scholarship Committee would be meeting on Friday at Floga to select the scholarship winners.

 

 

Sgt-at-Arms, Barry Smith, collected happy bucks, including:

 

- Courtney being happy to be back to the club after a busy time, and happy that Jamal has become a member of Rotary.

 

- Basil was happy to have his Presidential Pass to avoid fines and recommended it for this reason plus its provision of a charitable receipt to the purchaser.

 

- Dhanni, Sai Foo, Sandra, and Gerd also contributed happy bucks.

 

- Arthur contributed for the opportunity to tell one of his famous jokes.

 

President Avrum then terminated the meeting.
