Rotary Club of North Scarborough
Rota–Teller: December 6, 2023 – By Rocco Colangelo
Following a tour to the Bomb Girls Site in Scarborough scheduled by president Avrum, we headed to Floga for our regular Rotary meeting. Thank you Avrum
The G.E.C.O. complex was built in 1940 and 1941 during world war 2. With over 170 buildings and over 5 kilometers of tunnels, "General Engineering Company of Ontario" {G.E.C.O.} assembled and filled munitions such as fuses, primers, tubes, gaines, tracers, igniters and chemical explosives. it was the largest munitions factory in Canada. At their peak production they had over 5,300 employees working here. The tunnels were built with concrete {7ft high and 10ft wide} to protect the G.E.C.O. employees from weather and possible air raids and explosions within the factory. G.E.C.O had a stellar reputation there weren't any explosions of materials during their production. .

Program: Welding fundamentals.
Dave Hardy has been taking courses on welding, today he gave us some brif descriptions on welding process.
…Welding is a process that joins materials, usually metals of thermoplastics, hy using high heat to melt the parts together and allowing them to cool, causing fusion. There are different types of welding processes, such as MIG, stick and TIG, that use different heat sources, filler materials and shielding gases or fluxes. To weld, you need a welder, a welding hood, hand tools, and suitable materials. You also need to clean the material, practice, tack, and wear proper safety gear.
President Avrum thanked Dave for his presentation.
