We're pleased to support the Brave T.O. Run that was held on September 24 in Morningside Park. This new adventure race was presented by The Scarborough Hospital Foundation and featured the challenges faced by Toronto’s first responders – from rope climbs to wall scrambles, testing participants to the max throughout the course. Obstacles along the course included the Confidence Maze, Wall Clear, Flight & Hurdle, Balance Pit, Tunnel Crawl to name just a few.
The first-ever Canada Day Scarborough celebration was held on July 1 at the Scarborough Civic Centre and Albert Campbell Square, from noon to 10pm. This two-day festival consisted of a Citizenship Swearing In ceremony, multicultural performances, food, kids activities and many more. On Canada Day, sixteen rotarians from all five Scarborough clubs welcomed ninety-four new Canadians who emigrated from twenty-eight countries; after the swearing-in ceremony at the Scarborough Council Centre, everyone enjoyed the festivities! Welcome to Canada!
Our Club is pleased to support Hope Air, an organization that arranges free flights for Canadians who need healthcare. Participants in the presentation include from left to right: Jim Burton, Chairman of the Board, and Rotarian (St. John's), Doug Keller Hobson, a recipient of the Paul Harris Fellowship medal and current Club President Gerd Wengler.
Hope Air is the only registered, national charity that provides free flights to people who cannot afford the cost of an airline ticket to get to medical expertise or specialized medical technologies that usually exist only in larger urban centres. This is done primarily through one of three programs:
1. The Commercial Airline Donation Program
2. The Flight Purchase Program
3. The Volunteer Pilot Program
