Our Club was chartered on June 12, 1962 in North Scarborough. Our focus is on serving the local community and supporting international service projects. In addition to participating in annual fundraising activities, each member participates in one of three avenues of service: Club Service, Community, Youth and Vocational Service, or International Service.
- Club Service: Focuses on club administration including planning meetings, assemblies and fellowship events.
- Community, Youth & Vocational Service: Engages with the local community to provide support at both the individual and organizational level.
- International Service: Provides support for international programs either independently or in conjunction with other international or local partners.
COMMITTEES
The Club Services Committee is responsible for the day-to-day operations and social activities at The North Scarborough Rotary Club. Some of the activities include:
- Booking guest speakers
- Planning the annual Charter Party
- Hosting the annual Christmas Party
- Arranging other various fellowship events throughout the year
- Website and Social Media Management
- Club Administration
Members of the Club Services team contribute up to one evening per month to co-ordinate their duties. Members have the opportunity to provide skilled services to the club based on their personal and professional backgrounds.
The Community, Youth & Vocational Services Committee responds to the needs of our local community. We determine priorities for service projects by engaging with key stakeholders to evaluate and better understand the needs of Scarborough residents.
We offer diverse perspectives and bring our expertise to address social issues. Our partnership with individuals and organizations not only focuses on providing immediate assistance, but also on the strategic development and long term sustainability of key initiatives. Our goal is to be the initial driver of change until programs become self sustaining.
We also focus on raising awareness of Rotary activities in the community and participate in various fundraising activities throughout the year.
The International Services Committee is responsible for funding projects and programs outside of Canada. Each project and program is assessed by the group members and must meet certain criteria before investment is made. The most important criteria to be met includes the need for assistance. This usually means that the project to receive funding is located in transitional and developing countries. In most cases, the chosen projects are monitored by Rotary clubs in the same country.
