Gerd with his inimitable Irish accent told us about the Irish Chef who made a fabulous Chili Con Carne that had precisely 239 beans. When asked why this exact number the Irish Chef said, “One more will make it 240!!!” Although there was an outcry from the floor for a fine Jim spared him.

Speaker:   Chris Snyder was introduced by Basil.

A long standing distinguished member of the Rotary Club of Toronto. A tireless volunteer who has worked in many areas is a Financial Planner who has written 4 books and several hundred articles. He is married to Pat and has 3 children. He narrated several interesting anecdotes about his volunteer experience. He told us about a kid in Mumbai who received a $20 hearing aid which changed his life completely, thanks to a joint effort from his Rotary Club and the one in Mumbai. About a school in Malawi that had 2 latrines for a student body of 1400! Because of this chronic shortage only about 350 attended the school. When his club help construct 11 more latrines the enrollment doubled.  “Our world depends on helping each other” was his theme. The act of Volunteering has a wonderful gratifying effect on the volunteer. He urged us to volunteer with HIP, Helping Indigenous People.  Their top priority is Education. He recalled the Blanket Ceremony at the Rotary International Convention in Toronto. Kevin thanked the speaker for his inspirational talk. He told us about our Club’s involvement in the publication of a bilingual book in Nunavut in English and Inuktitut.  He presented Chris with a certificate from Operation Eyesight where the eyesight of a young lady was restored in India.  His talk is available in this website courtesy of Peter Masson:   https://www.dropbox.com/s/ckz0vi9f03z1fuk/Chris%20Snyder.MP3?dl=0 .
