Rotary Club of North Scarborough
Rota-Teller
Wednesday October 8, 2014

Attendance:        12 members and 3 guests

Anthem:        Peter Masson

Grace:            Tony Baker

Toast to the Queen, Canada and Rotary:    Chair Jim Boyko

Guests:    Jan Lee (friend of Saifoo), Chan Seemungal (mother of David) and guest speaker David Lockett.

Announcements:    Kevin Manuel announced that a total of 24 items have been received to date for the TV auction. We need to start soliciting and bringing in items!
Club TV Chair Rocco advised that our club is doing okay and will come up with the required items; Dhanni, in charge of sponsorships and donations, asked that we get our ask in gear.
Co-treasurer Jack Holman reminded us that dues are due; very few members have paid their dues as of now. Jack also reminded us that on October 22nd we’ll be in the small room adjacent to the bar, because our room and the entire hotel is fully booked.
David Seemungal told us about his interview by Global TV regarding our Scarborough Renewal and making Scarborough better. Well done, David.
Basil reminded the club that Camp Enterprise on Friday Oct 17 to Sunday Oct 19 required all hands on deck! If you haven’t volunteered yet, we still need chaperones for Friday night, and volunteers to help with the game on Friday night at 7:00 PM.

Marbelous Draw:    Conducted by Kevin Manuel, drawn by David Lockett and won by Rocco (only $5, the big pot is still available).

Segeant AT Arms:    Doug Strype, new to this role, asked easy questions regarding the Leafs (when is first game, against whom, and name of coach). Everybody was happy because of the unusual buffett, and therefore the happy bucks flowed

Program:

Basil introduced our guest speaker, David Lockett, who updated us on PACT, and received a cheque for $3,000.00.

David reminded us that PACT (Participation, Acknowledgement, Commitment, Transformation) resulted from the Rotary Urban Peace initiative started by Past Ri President Luis Giay (“Build the Future with Action and Vision”).

From the original PACT program there is now PACT Cooking, PACT Fashion, PACT Film, Grow-to-learn Garden, PACT Meditation and other programs to help youth get out of trouble and stay out of trouble. Great programs and fantastic results, where spending approximately $5,000.00 can save approximately  $2,000,000.00 per person.

 David was thanked by Basil.
