Announcements:

  • Basil Dias – Our Christmas luncheon will be on December 17 and we need to advise the hotel of planned headcount. Please be sure to respond to the email that will be sent out shortly.

  • Mike Mushet –   The next meeting of Group 2/3 will be held on January 7 at the Delta Hotel, right after the regular luncheon session. This will be convenient in the event of inclement weather.

  • Jim Boyko – Reminded the group that we will have a very special, scintillating speaker on January 14. Pease be sure to attend!

  • Gerd Wengler – Shared the discussion he had with Basil about supporting a local School Breakfast Program. Gerd mentioned that Park Properties will support this worthwhile cause.

  • Gerd Wengler – Discovered a plaque of the “Polish Soldier Tree” when hiking the Bruce Trail. In 1942 a Polish soldier carved a heartfelt message into the bark of a Beech tree. The message on the old Beech gives a rare glimpse into the life of a Polish Army training camp during the early years of the Second World War.

Marbelous Draw: David Seemungal

Suspiciously won again, by Mike Mushet and Gerd Wengler – defeating the laws of probability!

Sergeant at Arms: David Seemungal

  • Fines  were levied against those individuals who:
  • Sat in the same seat as last week
  • Did not have their Rotary badge or pin with them

Happy Bucks from:

  • Barry – donated $5 on behalf of the “syndicate”; additional happy bucks as he was happy to be going to St. Lucia to attend his son’s wedding.
  • Basil – happy to have met with the Sunrise Club and currently negotiating to do a combined Ribfest event at the Markham civic centre next year. Proceeds from the 2014 Ribfest were $10K; our club’s share was $2.5K.
  • Dhanni – looking forward to her trip this Friday to NYC, planning to see a Broadway show
  • Peter – happy to have finally sold his Dodge!

Other:

A quick “mini” auction was completed of three remaining items from last week’s auction. Congratulations to Peter and Gord on their successful bids.

Program:

Josie Canning is the Secretary of the Toronto Chapter of Dreams Take Flight – an organization that focuses on giving children a special experience in order to give flight to new hopes and dreams.

Dreams Take Flight is a non-profit organization made up entirely of volunteers from the Air Canada family in Canada and the USA. Teams organize the trip of a lifetime for physically, mentally or socially challenged children, ages typically ranging from six to twelve years. The destination is Disney World, Florida or Disneyland, California. There are approximately eight trips annually, between April and November and at the end of 2014 it is estimated that over 20,000 children would have benefited from this experience.

New volunteers are always welcome! Anyone interested in participating please contact the organization at www.dreamstakeflight.ca
