Anthem: Gordon Brown

Grace: Mike Mushet

Toast to the Queen, Canada & Rotary: President Basil

Attendance: 11 including guest speaker Larry Wright (Port Perry R.C.)

Announcements:
Doug Strype reported that donation receipts have been sent out to all donors to
the club’s foundation but that we are NOT to include in our tax returns the receipt
from District 7070 as that donation was made by the club ... not the membership.

Basil reminded us that Feb 23rd is the 112th birthday anniversary of Rotary. It’s a
great opportunity to share the work and rewards of membership with family,
friends, and business associates. Remember that lunch for a prospective
member is on us for the first visit.

Our club’s Pub night has been postponed to March 2nd now that their plumbing
problems have been repaired. The Event will be in Ballantrae on Thursday
March 2nd at the Coach House Pub at 3 Felcher Blvd. Remember to bring along
some canned goods or other non-perishable items for a local food bank.

The Board will meet at Mahavi and Sameer’s next Monday, Feb. 27th at 6:30 pm.
A formal email reminder will follow. (Bring your appetite too for Sameer’s
delights).

Last Tuesday, Arthur, Frank and Basil met with our Interact advisor at the
Precious Blood School to hand over the final payment for the meal program, and
to discuss their Interact club, ongoing mentoring, and future collaboration
between us. As Interact Club sponsors, we need to have a committee of 5 club
members, so we need two other volunteers to join us. (Peter Masson reduced
that number to one more needed when he raised his hand to participate).

Kevin Manuel has heard from Rogers Cable that they will no longer be doing the
TV Auction. This has come as a SHOCK, as you can well imagine. It gives more
urgency to our search for other fund-raising projects. This would be an
appropriate focus for discussion when next week we have scheduled Directors’
reports.

Marbelous draw:
Our guest speaker Larry Wright was the winner today. His life was threatened if
he pulled out the mutant marble but was saved when he got the $5 consolation prize
instead.
Sargeant at Arms Gordon asked what special day Feb 22nd was acclaimed. No
members knew but lots of guesses ... it was “Anti-bullying Day” (We should have known
the answer when Larry was being threatened before drawing two dark marbles).
Happy bucks were offered up by Arthur who saw “Arsenic and Old Lace” at the
Markham Little Theatre and enjoyed it very much.

Program:
Larry Wright (Port Perry R.C.) Gave a presentation on the District 7070 Youth Exchange.

Currently more than 8,000 students travel abroad each year to attend school, live with host families and learn a new culture. To participate in the program as a partnering District, a District must be approved by Rotary International by demonstrating that it and the Clubs within the District are able to follow the rules of exchange established by Rotary International. There are currently more than 80 countries around the world that have partnering Districts.
•Today Rotary sees the Youth Exchange program as contributing to international understanding and promoting world peace one student at a time.
