Announcements:

● Standing ovation for support by Frank Lippa for the club and its programs after Gerd introduced Frank as our visitor to-day.
David Seemungal announced that Gerd Wengler has purchased another P.H. Fellow (as the Rotary Foundation urges us all to do) ... #4 pip for his pin.
Scarborough Rib Fest is coming July 31 to August 3.  Basil is anxiously awaiting volunteers to fill our roster for parking and promotion of Rotary duties..
● Next week Gerd will be advising who has been assigned to which group. Most have indicated that they would remain in the same groups as last year.  But recent new members will be assigned after they have indicated their preferences.
● Jack Holman reports that he may only be contacted by phone, postal service or by carrier pigeon until his laptop has been resuscitated.
● Dave Hardy reported that there has been a good response for the Art in the Park event July 25 & 26.

Marbelous Draw:

Mike asked our guest, Frank, to pull the winning ticket.  This week it was Gerd again who held the winning ticket stub.  But $5 was the consolation prize ... returned shortly afterward.
Sergeant at Arms:
●Dave Hardy asked for hands up if you had volunteered for the Civic Holiday RibFest. Not many hands went up.  So the point was made .... we need the money and Basil is anxiously awaiting for volunteers to contact him.
●Gerd gave a happy (?) buck for his and Dorothy’s exhausting week.  Yes, this is what happens when an 8 week old puppy takes over your home.  Their laundry basket is being re-organized one sock at a time and she tears around the house as if she were on a racetrack then collapses only long enough to recharge her batteries.
● Basil confessed that when he visited the Scarborough club on RibFest business he was advised to be “Packett light” in his funding requests for the Foundation.
●Many others contributed happy bucks as we settled into our new routine of soup and our choice off the menu before the program part of the meeting.

Program:

James was given the honour of introducing President Gerd (even though he has been a regular fixture at the podium this past year).  But this time it was to look ahead to the new Rotary year 2015/16 when he is club president.
Gerd began by introducing our new R.I. President Ravi Ravindran from Sri Lanka (formerly Ceylon). Gerd personally met him at R.I.’s Evanston head office when the 7070 group was visiting as part of the PETS program. The July issue of the Rotarian magazine tells a part of his story.  First having his tea business taken away from him and his family and then starting anew with an idea that all tea bags must be labeled and thus the growing business of packaging and labeling this most valuable commodity which is one of Sri Lanka’s major exports to the world. Now as R.I. president he is lucky to have more than a couple of days to return to visit his home country.
Gerd introduced President Ravi’s new Presidential Citation to be awarded to clubs directly by R.I. during his year in office.  These citations are intended to encourage clubs to make strides in the following areas:

Membership Development and Retention

Foundation Giving
Online Tool Adoption
Humanitarian Service
New Generations
Public Image

All clubs are to set at least 15 goals and pay semiannual dues on time.
Each member is to receive the pamphlet that was handed out to all attending.  It will be the focus of the club membership and the Board as we prepare our response to the presidential challenge.

Donna thanked Gerd for his presentation and assured him that we will work toward achieving the goals that will crown his year with a Presidential Citation.
