ROTARY LUNCHEON

  5. Attendance -  14
  6. Announcements: Mike Mushet announced that members of Community Service (Group 2 & 3) will meet on  Feb 4th after the Luncheon meeting at the Delta hotel venue.
     erd Wengler announced that the 4 working groups have been reorganized into 3 as Club Service (Group 1), Community Service (Groups 2 & 3) and International Service (Group 4).
    David Hardy provided an upbeat update on the Scarborough Renewal Campaign and a final report is on the way.
    Gerd Wengler announced that Donna Salamalay gratefully acknowledged the condolence card she received from the Rotary Club on her father passing away.
    Kevin Manual’s message to the club was conveyed to Gerd Wengler regarding the proceeds of the auction. A cheque for $ 20,833.64 will soon be sent to our club. Just for comparison we received approximately $16,000 last year. With the sponsorship proceeds of around $12,000 the total amount the club will receive is approximately 34 K.
    David Seemungal made a tongue-in-cheek announcement that a dangerous snow storm will be upon us and we should take the subway early to avoid the blizzard that will arrive on Thursday !
  7. Marbelous Draw: Gordon Brown.  Jack Holman’s ticket was drawn but he failed to pick the magic marble. Everyone expressed their sympathy and he received the consolation prize of $5.
  8. Sergeant-at-arms: Mike Mushet. He went to Happy Bucks without resorting to the usual unanswerable questions followed by fines!
    Jack Holman was happy that he was doing well after his harrowing experience.
     Gordon Brown was happy that Chelsea prevailed over Liverpool 2 – 1.
    Peter Masson reported that he attended an extradition hearing of one of his parish members and was happy that her case was amicably settled.
    Gerd Wengler was happy to report that he was in Germany during the weekend hobnobbing with celebrities such as the Lord Mayor of Hamburg! 
    Frank Allison was in the Cloud Forest in Costa Rica on a photography trip. Apparently when he went back to the pickup truck to get his camera and the tripod the truck started rolling back. It was ultimately stopped among other attempts using a tripod throwing his camera and tripod off the truck and was destroyed. But for this incident he said that the trip was wonderful especially the sloth they saw. 
    Mike Mushet was happy to report on his sponsorship of members to join the Royal Military Society. 
  9. Speaker:   Gordon Brown introduced the speaker, Earl Salzman and his cohort Paul Evans. He spoke on the dire predictions on the effects of climate change. It was a lively meeting with questions on the validity of some of his statements by Gerd Wengler and Mike Mushet. Dave Hardy thanked him for his presentation and gave him the details on the donation made on his behalf to restore the eye sight of a person in India.
