Announcements-
-Gerd Wengler presented an envelope with a cheque for the Club’s Foundation. The contractors and suppliers of Park Properties had made a $16,000 donation including $5,000 from (Paul Harris Fellow) Frank Liddett one of their main contractors. These contributions are in lieu of Christmas turkeys and other gift baskets that used to be provided to the company’s staffers before they were encouraged to give to the needs of the community via our Rotary Foundation.

-A special announcement was made by Dexter to celebrate Basil’s birthday to-day # 70.
-Group 1 to meet at Kevin Manuel’s home at 6:30 pm on Monday Jan 12th.
-Group 2/3 to meet after this meeting at the Delta hotel.
- Vern Barney provided us with the details of the Christmas hams project that his Willowdale club has as a fund raiser each year.  He invited us to join them if we wished to sell hams.

Marbelous Draw-
Cheryl Meredith was the lucky winner of $5.  The big prize still awaits us all.

Sergeant at Arms-
A flurry of activity preceded the Sergeant at Arms as Doug Strype collected $100 contributions to the Foundation (tax receipt to follow) for a “Presidential Pardon” which will exempt the bearer for payment of fines at all meetings of the club during calendar year 2015.

-Basil Dias tossed $20 (or was that $40)  into the fine box to celebrate his birthday ..... but it was noted that he had a free lunch provided by Dexter.  It’s so nice to have friends when we grow older!

-Jim Boyko was happy that he had family join them over Christmas from Vancouver and they brought along what seemed to be a thousand pictures of their trip to Kathmandu in Nepal. Well they settled for just over 150 which was an eye popping experience.  Marti’s sister and brother-in-law just got out of Nepal after the tremendous ice and snow storm hit that killed many who were unprepared for the severe weather conditions in Nepal’s mountains.
-Wayne Chih just back from several weeks in China visited a hospital that is testing traditional medicine techniques over a 6 month period researching alternatives to kidney dialysis.  He also met his future partner during this trip.

Barry Smith was fresh back from his son’s wedding (location not revealed but warmer than Toronto) and Mike who, together with Sandra, joined them encouraged him to cough up money for the pleasure of seeing his son on his way ...even though there was 2 minutes of rain while away. Mike also encouraged him to pay up for his birthday as well and for the treat that the bride’s family picked up the bill at the end of the party.

Gerd was happy to be back home after their visit with dog in tow to western Canada where they survived  -40 C winter weather in Banff and in Saskatchewan.  Beautiful in winter but they preferred the fireside and mugs of Christmas cheer to going outside .... and the dog??

Program- White elephant auction

This was Al Meredith’s opportunity to surpass the auction record that has stood for years when Jack Wiley was the club’s auctioneer.

Well after much coaching and cajoling auctioneer Al collected $265 for the club’s treasury.

You can hear the process which was recorded as Allan pulled the dollars out of our pockets.

Next Meeting Jan 14th
Jim Boyko will give his look back on the year 2014 and a look into his crystal ball for what may or may not happen in 2015.  Join us for fun and insight into the world of Canadian and international politics, the economic outlook and of course, Jim’s report on his investment recommendations last year and those for 2015.
