Program:
Our Guest speaker this week was Asif Pradhim, who is part of the Speakers’ Bureau with the Aga Khan Foundation. They meet with different groups to educate local communities about the non-for profit’s activities. The Aga Khan Foundation was established in 1967; the Canadian arm (AKFC) was established in 1980. AKFC is a registered Canadian charity and an agency of the worldwide Aga Khan Development Network, a group of development agencies with individual mandates that address social, economic and cultural dimensions of development. Active in 30 countries, these agencies share a mission to improve living conditions and opportunities for the poor, without regard to their faith, origin or gender.

Asif has an educational background and shared his experiences in Chitral, a town near the Afghanistan/Pakistan border. He discussed the fact that educators in the region are committed to developing young minds, regardless of the limited training materials available to them – the focus is on active learning and the ability to stimulate a child’s learning.

“Education is the most powerful force you can use to change the world” – Nelson Mandela
