Arthur introduced both of our guests from Chinese Family Services of Ontario - Dr. Anna Wong Executive Director and Teresa Tsui a Director.

 

 

 

Image result for Dr. Anna Wong Chinese Family Services of OntarioDr. Wong told us that they are the only organization providing services for the East Asian community in Ontario. Their headquarters in the Midland and Finch area of Scarborough. They also operate in York and Peel. They have four ‘pillars’ representing their strategic priorities: 1. To strengthen organizational financial health and ensure sustainability. 2. Strengthen, enhance and expand services primarily to individuals in need with Chinese background. 3. Improve people and process for increased organizational competitiveness and service capacity. 4. Strengthen organization’s brand in its field and in the community it serves. Their budget in 2006 was $1.6 million, 2019 $2 million. They have many sources of funding – the top three being United Way, Ministry of Community & Social Services and Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada. There are four service areas – counselling, settlement, mental health and addiction and community. For more information their website is www.chinesefamilyso.com.

Avrum thanked Dr. Wong and presented her with an Operation Eye Sight certificate.

 

Announcements. 

· Chair Gerd had some announcements from President Donna. 

· On April 13, 2019 the Rotary Clubs of Scarborough are having a budget analysis breakfast at JC’s Banquet Hall.

· The same day there is also the Rotary Leadership Institute.

· Gerd mentioned that the Pub Night last week had 13 people attend. The ‘informal fellowship lunch’ at Baton Rouge was also a success.  

Marbellous Draw. 

Dhanni asked Dr. Wong to draw the winning ticket which Gerd claimed, but was unable to find the mutant marble.

 

Sergeant at Arms.

Barry was our SAA today. He fined Gerd for trying to switch around the schedule. No other fines just happy bucks.

Arthur had a ‘sad’ few bucks as a friend of his had passed away. This person had done a lot of early work on DNA and had written an often quoted paper on the subject.

Gordon donated two bucks representing the two goals that TFC’s new signing, Alejandro Pozuelo, scored on his debut last Friday.

Peter donated as he was happy having seen the presentation today.

Dr. Wong donated a she was happy to have given the presentation to our club and also sad that an Uncle had recently passed away.

Gerd donated as he was happy he had drawn the winning ticket.

There being no further business Gerd closed the meeting.
