President Gordon introduced Tess Widdifield from Shelter Box Canada.

See the source imageTess is the Acting Executive Director at ShelterBox Canada. Tess started her journey into the non-profit world at Brescia University College at Western University, earning a degree in international community development. Tess has been a member of the ShelterBox team since 2014, working to promote the Rotary Project Partnership and fundraising campaigns in Canada. Tess is currently the Foundation chair at the Rotary Club of Toronto Twilight and in her spare time can be found doing something creative or cheering for the Raptors.

Tess told us that Shelterbox was started by a Rotary Club in Cornwall, England in 2000. Since then Shelterbox has helped over 1.5 million people in 97 countries. They have 15 affiliates in different parts of the world. The need increases every year – this year 104 million people were made homeless from natural disasters or conflicts. The Shelterbox contains tools, solar lights, blankets and cooking utensils. This can vary however depending on where it is been sent to. For more information visit their website: www.shelterboxcanada.org. Basil thanked Tess for her presentation.

Gordon
Gordon spoke about the bottle drive and the fact that he sent a note out to everyone thanking those who had participated and of course Gerd and Park property management, who's efforts contributed to half of the collection on the day. ( A suggestion that was made by Ger's wife Dorothy ) Over $1,200.00 was collected. Hard work on a long cold day for those who came down. It was good to be able to come out and see other members in person though. Thanks also to Steve Rutledge who supplied the canopy.

Peter:
Peter let us know that he was driving through Brantford last week with Joan so they stopped by to visit with Charles Whitney. Charles was a member in NSRC before he moved to Brantford. Charles and his wife Shirley were a lovely couple very involved with the club. Unfortunately Charles lost Shirley this year to Parkinson's. Charle's health is failing and he walks with a walking stick now. He is however the financial person for the local Probus club. Like here unfortunately there are no in person meetings though.

Gerd:
Gerd informed us that our member Kathleen was taken to hospital and had to undergo surgery last week. Gerd is trying to find out more and will update us with Kathleen' permission.

Courtney Asked for Happy Thoughts.

Frank. Had a run in with the law when picking up the club property from The Old Scott House Restaurant where we had been holding our meetings before COVID-19. While following Peter through an intersection the traffic camera saw him enter the intersection .5 of a second too late. That cost him over $350.00. Also Betty's sister Lillian who tested positive for COVID-19 and is now clear at 96 year of age. Remarkable

Courtney: (Scarborough Rosewood Food drive) Had a call from Daily Bread Food bank. They invited Them out to meet with 4 board members. They asked questions about the food drive and invited them to an information session next week, They are looking for groups to manage an anchor centre they are looking to set up. Courtney was quite excited about this prospect.

Dave Hardy. Is Happy that both the the Scarborough Business Association and the Scarborough Community Renewal Association, organizations started by Rotary are gaining recognition. The Scarborough walk of fame has asked that the latter group take over the running of the walk of fame.

Gerd was happy that the World Health Organization has stated that dogs need not be quarantined now. The newspaper headline read: W.H.O. let the dogs out!

Gordon, Peter and David were happy that the bottle drive was over along with the cold and sore backs.

Arthur: Has a friend who said that with being confined at home with his wife because of COVID-19 he now knows every mistake he has made in the past 30 years!

Alan . Tried to play golf in the cold. Not a good idea. Also is having trouble getting an appointment for a flue shot.

Gordon thanked everyone, wished everyone a good week and closed the meeting.
