Toast to King, Canada, and Rotary: President Danny Cassidy.
Attendance: 10 members; 1 guest – Patience, visiting Rotarian and current president of the Rotary Club of Sabon Gari, Kano State, Nigeria, and Assistant Governor for District 9127.
Introduction of speaker: Saifoo introduced Danny by highlighting his biking skills and tenacity, as demonstrated in his recent Ride for Cancer campaign. Saifoo further suggested that Danny would bring similar tenacity and resilience to his presidency.
Speaker, President Danny:
Danny thanked Immediate Past President (F2024 – 2025), Gordon Brown, for the work that he did over the course of the last fiscal year. He also noted, with celebration, that Gordon was the club’s president during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic (2020-2021), when all meetings were conducted over Zoom.
In year two of the pandemic, Danny himself became president (2021 – 2022) and conducted some meetings over Zoom until, thanks to Gerd, our club was able to commence in-person meetings at a recreational centre. During that period, Danny made arrangements with a caterer to make lunch available to attendees of the weekly meetings, and he facilitated members who were unable to attend in-person meetings by securing the club’s ownership of Owl technology that better allowed our club to host hybrid meetings.
Danny then mentioned that in the year following his presidency, former President Courtney Fisher (2022–2023) was instrumental in helping to secure Floga restaurant as the club’s home for luncheon meetings. Thereafter, the club was faithfully served by President Avrum (2023 – 2024), who was instrumental in bringing a new and successful fundraiser (Gala Event) to reality.
Danny went on to introduce the Board of Directors for the fiscal year 2025 – 2026,

He then emphasized our club’s need for the following:
- a strong and effective social media (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube) presence.
- technical support for our club’s weekly bulletins and for our club’s website.
- a full and exciting roster of speakers.
- Collaboration with other Rotary clubs and enhancing our members’ engagement with our club
- Member support for the club’s upcoming Gala and Membership Luncheon.

Thanking the speaker: Dave Hardy thanked Danny for laying out a pragmatic plan with steps that were clear, relevant, and, with a lot of work, achievable.
