Dr. Roz Roach – Executive Director of Dr. Roz's Healing Place. Introduced by Arthur
Presentation (summary): Dr. Roz thanked the Rotary Club of North Scarborough for its donation. She delivered a passionate message regarding the mission and activities of Dr. Roz’s Healing Place. Mission: to work toward the eradication of violence against women and children locally and globally.
Locally, the organization provides a safe space for women and children fleeing violence. Women and children receive legal support, counselling support, and English language supports. Clients are provided mentoring services and are provided healing services in the forms of dance and yoga. In addition, Dr. Roz’ s Healing Place partners with education and community institutions to provide supports to children and adults. Dr. Roz was also particularly enthused by the organization’s VIBE Program (in-school mentoring and tutoring program), its Sistas Calling initiative and its current focus on Education of all People on Matters of Abuse.
Globally, Dr. Roz spoke of program delivery and support for similar organizations across West Africa and the Caribbean.
Finally, Dr. Roz spoke well of the volunteers that bring well-needed services to the community and to the clients at Dr. Roz’s Healing Place. She spoke of the gratitude expressed by clients who use their services. It is often said that if you want to know about the value of an organization’s service to the community, ask the organization’s clients.
