Caroline Fotheringham .    Director, Corporate Partnerships at Habitat for Humanity Canada & GTA

Arthur told us some information about Carolyn. Carolyn and her team work with many community groups. They help low income families know the pride of home ownership. Prior to Habitat Carolyn spent 7 years as a senior manager of corporate partnerships with Plan International, an organization dedicated to children's rights and equality for girls. Carolyn is the proud mother of two girls, Ashley and Erika and grandmother of 11 month old Nicholas.
We have a long history with Habitat, participating in various projects serving breakfast etc. Arthur's wife Sarasi worked for 10 years in Sault Ste. Marie in the Habitat restore store and really loved it. One year she got an award for the outstanding volunteer of the year from the Mayor.

Announcements

Rocco:  The next club Services meeting will be this Monday January 11, 2021, at 7.00pm. Rocco will send out the ZOOM link and materials.

Gerd:  In the past 2 months, Park Property Management and their partners have contributed $50,000.00 to North Scarborough Rotary Club. The total for 2020 reached $150,000.00.  This is an incredible amount and it allows us to do what we do for the community.  Gerd noted that while the club has received this, future circumstances could change and the club would be left to fund raise on it's own.  A very true statement.

Gerd also shared a story that a flying buddy had told him about a wife who explains to her husband that he could have bought an aeroplane by now if he hadn't spent money on drink. The husband retorted, "You don't drink. right? So where's your aeroplane?

Gordon:  The District Governors' virtual visit will be on Thursday January 28th at 7pm.  The usual meeting on the 27th is cancelled. Please attend this meeting and remember to wear a pin if possible or something else identifying yourself as a Rotarian.  Details will be sent out for the DG meeting.
Gordon suggested, as it was Basil's birthday that we should sing happy Birthday.  The rendition was truly painful to hear, but Basil appreciated it.

Dave Hardy.   Dave asked, only for happy thoughts respecting everyone's time.

Dave.  The Scarborough Renewal Organization is starting a speaker series starting on the evening of the 21st. Dave has sent out a notice about that to members. Dave hardy will be the first speaker. Should be very interesting.

Danny.  Enjoyed the information on Habitat as he had always wondered how this worked.

Courtney.  Courtney's organization "Rising Sun Food bank" gives out samosas to their volunteers and one day the lady who supplies them asked if anything could be done with the food that they throw out at the end of the day. Luckily they had just received a donation from a group called North Scarborough Rotary Club !  Courtney thanked the club on behalf of Rising sun . He knew that a fund was being raised but he had no idea how generous the donation would be.

Arthur.  Arthur was watching the Canada US hockey game and switching back and forth to the elections in Georgia.  He was despondent about the game as the US were winning 2-0 and it didn't look good at all. Also the Republicans were leading in both races in Georgia. ( Arthur is not a Trump fan :-) ). So he went to bed quite down. In the morning his son called him to say that it looked like the democrat candidates were going to win both seats.  The hockey game now forgotten , the call from his son made his day.

Gerd.  Gerd showed a photo of a LEGO construction set he got for Christmas.  A model of a hydraulic excavator.  4200 pieces.
Started on Christmas day and spent several hours each day until New Year.  He now has to take a course on how to operate it !

Rocco.  Wished Basil a Happy Birthday! and thanked Gerd for his contributions to the Club.

Saifoo.  Had some organizations he would like to thank. First the Chinese Cultural Community Center who provided dinner to the seniors during the Christmas evenings.  They also delivered free meals to the volunteers.
Saifoo is also a member of the conversational group at the Senior Person Living Care. The organizers there also delivered free meals to the seniors. A continental breakfast which was really appreciated .

Gordon.  Was thankful that everyone in his family are healthy and with that closed the meeting until next week.
