President Avrum opened the meeting and read the land acknowledgment.
Arthur led us with the national anthem.
Avrum then gave a toast to the King, Canada and Rotary.

Speaker: Danny introduced our speaker, who this week was our very own Frank Allison.
Frank spoke about Port Sunlight – the ‘Jewel in the Crown’ in the Liverpool area. Bette and Frank bought a home there 22 years ago. It was founded by William Hesketh Lever (Lord Leverhulme) in 1888. Lever built Port Sunlight to house the workers at his soap factory, Lever Brothers, which eventually became the global giant, Unilever. There is a memorial there to Lord Leverhulme. The village is home to more than 900 Grade II listed buildings with over 30 different architects that created the buildings, monuments and memorials. It is set in 130 acres of parkland and gardens. One of the venues in the village is Hulme Hall, where Ringo Starr first performed with The Beatles. Another ‘venue’ is the Bridge Inn – the pub that Frank and Bette go to when they are there.
Frank extended an invitation to us to stay at their home if we were visiting Liverpool. Joan and Peter Masson mentioned that they had stayed there and had a wonderful time. For more information, here is the website: https://www.portsunlightvillage.com/
Barry thanked Frank for his presentation.
Announcements:
· Danny reminded us about the Foundation Walk on October 15th. He will send out the link to sign up. It is at Milne Park in Markham on McCowan south of Hwy 7. We are responsible for getting the food, so he needs help in the morning to pick it up from McDonalds who are sponsoring us.
· Avrum reminded us of the District Governors' visit next Wednesday (20th) together with the other Scarborough Clubs. It is at Floga’s starting at 5.30 pm. If you will be attending and haven’t already done so, please e-transfer $30 to Dhanni. Spouses and guests are welcome.
Sergeant at Arms
Alan Meredith was SAA this week.
· He fined Danny for punching him in the arm to pay attention.
· He wanted anyone who hadn’t been to Port Sunlight to ‘pay up’.
· Avrum was happy that his grandchild’s first word was ‘Zaidy’ – meaning ‘Grandpa’.
President Avrum then closed the meeting with a quote from Dr. Suess – “Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not.”
