Steve is a frequent visitor to our club and a tireless worker promoting all things Rotary by his words and actions.

Steve talked to us about his clean water projects in Laos.

His primary goals are to solicit and secure financial support to relieve two areas of concern in the rural villages of Laos Water and Education. Specifically, water projects are dedicated to bringing permanent water into villages, hygiene training with water filter distribution, and hygienic toilets. Education includes the construction of schools where none exist or where current schools are not adequate for learning, plus sponsorship of poor children who would not be able to go to school without help.

His presentation references the provision of a permanent water system to the rural, northern village of Houy Hid. This village currently has 115 families (about 575 residents) and is located approximately 15km from a paved road, so it is often not accessible during the rainy season. As a result, farming is the mainstay of their livelihoods. Rotary will build a dam, lay 5.2 km of pipe (plus the piping throughout the village), and construct a water tank and tap structures in the village.
