Introduction by Peter: It's a pleasure to introduce the RYLA student of the year.
Aniruddha Joshi
He made his application to attend RYLS, the Youth, Rotary Youth Leadership Symposium last January for the symposium held in April.
Maddie, who is his godmother, recommended him for that program and after we looked at his application, we agreed to support it. He would attend the event at Ganaraska Forest Center, near Port Hope, where District 7070 sponsors a leadership symposium . The three-night, four-day experience is geared toward youth between the ages of 16 and 20 and offers an inspiring program, I have a few highlights of that program here. Conflict resolution. Diversity, equity, inclusion and Reconciliation. leadership. Hands-on activities, group dynamics, public speaking, outdoor survival, along with campfires, friendship, fun, and learning and he is here today to share his experience. Welcome to our club meeting today.
Aniruddha gave us an outline of his experience at RILIS 2024 and said "I just want to give a big thank you to the Rotary Club of North Scarborough because without you guys, it wouldn't be possible for me to have attended and enjoyed and learned so much from this amazing experience. So with that being said, I wanted to say a thank you to the Rotary Club of North Scarborough",
Ani gave us an outline of the event at Ganaraska Forest Center, near Port Hope, where District 7070 sponsors a leadership symposium. Ani gave us an insight into the various activities he participated in, including an ice breaker where your partner had to ask questions while you tried to figure out who the celebrity was taped to your back.
A daunting team challenge of trying to stick a piece of tape to the highest point of the facility, team-building games outside, greatly focused on communication,. Along with walks in the woods getting to know each other.
they were split up into groups of around six and using the materials they had been given, they had to cross a field safely without touching any of the grass because they were told that the grass was molten lava.
Also on this day, they were constructing hygiene kits for young girls in the DR.
So this was the big highlight of the day. Essentially they were educated on how unfortunately young women in the DR aren't equipped and aren't given proper materials for when they have their period.
What they did was create more than 100 reusable sanitary napkins kits for the young girls in the DR to be shipped to those people there later this year.
