Marbelous Draw: Mike conducted the draw and asked our guest Mark to draw the ticket which was claimed by Frank Allison but he couldn’t find the mutant marble – he was given $5 as a consolation.
Sergeant-At-Arms: Alan Meredith thought he would fine Danny Cassidy as he hadn’t been at our meetings for quite a while – Danny said he would as long as he could ‘throw in’ some happy bucks as well and announced that he would be coming a grandfather twice as two of his children will be having babies. Jack donated some happy bucks – something to do with Jim Boyko’s prediction on the Super Bowl. Frank gave back his $5 – he was happy that his grandson was going to be in the GTA All Stars for American Football for the second year running. Carolyn donated as she was happy Danny was at the meeting. Gerd donated as he was happy he was going to a Robbie Burns night on Friday and was going to have some haggis (no doubt some scotch as well!).
Program
Frank Allison introduced our own Danny Cassidy who gave a presentation on the Rouge Valley Health Care System.  Danny told us that while he had a brother and sister in health care he really knew nothing about hospitals and in fact hoped to avoid them…Until one day 3 1/2 years ago he had a cardiac arrest, resulting in triple by-pass surgery. Danny now works as a volunteer in the cardiac rehab programme at RVHS. He told us that most of the therapists are younger, around 26 years old.  While they have the technical skills required, it helps when a volunteer who has had a similar experience as the patient is on hand. All cardiac volunteers are ex patients.
Danny is now on the Community Advisory Group for RVHS. and is the Durham representative. Danny discussed his experience at the RVHS annual leadership meeting where they discussed:
  • Patient Family Centered Care.
  • Visit to A US Health care group where PFCC has been in place for 9 years.
  • PFCC Accreditation requirements
  • The Excellent Care for all Act 2010
Danny also mentioned a 2 year in the making  project to create a palliative care unit in the RVHS where there is a definite need.
Danny thanked the group for the opportunity to voice the little he has learned in the 4 months he has been on the CAG.
Recording

Roland thanked Danny for his presentation and Gerd gave him a Rotary scotch glass.
There being no further business President Gerd closed the meeting.
