Guest Speaker: Past President Courtney was introduced by President-Elect Gordon

Courtney updated us on the remarkable progress and accomplishments of the Rising Sun Food Drive Foundation.

Starting as a part of the Rosewood Community Association, the first food drive in 2012 collected 2,250 pounds of food for distribution. Originally intended to be a “one of” project, the food drive continued, first as the Scarborough Rosewood Food Drive, and eventually, in 2020, as a charitable foundation, the Rising Sun Food Drive Foundation.

A major portion of the collections come from door-to-door, food rescue, corporate food donations, and a food purchasing program. An interesting component of the program is pet food and feminine hygiene products. These have a tremendous effect on mental health.

Collections increased to 73,000 pounds in 2023, and are projected to reach 100,000 pounds in 2024. Food insecurity is an ever-increasing problem in all of our communities.

Courtney was thanked by Barry
