Mackenzie’s Hope:
Peter introduced his son, David Masson who is an Ambassador for Mackenzie’s Hope. David talked about the family’s journey when his daughter, Mackenzie Lynn Masson was diagnosed with amyloid myeloid leukemia (AML). Mackenzie was a generous, caring and compassionate kid who loved the Arts and swimming. Her younger brother Jamie was athletic and together they both loved attending summer camp in Muskoka Woods. Despite the challenges of her treatment, Mackenzie was always concerned about how her brother Jamie was feeling.
Mackenzie lost her battle with cancer at the age of 12; shortly thereafter, inspired by Mackenzie’s love for her brother Jamie, in Oct 2012 Mackenzie’s Hope was founded. The non-profit is focused on providing a camp experience in Muskoka Woods for the siblings of kids with cancer. This supportive environment provides respite for the siblings and is meant to reinforce the message that they are also important, they are remembered and there are also others who are going through the same challenges.
