Attendance:    9 members plus 3 guests: Beth Selby, District Governor Elect from the Rotary Club of Cobourg, Larry Whatmore from the Rotary Club of East York, and Daniel Lee, a guest of Barry Smith’s.

Anthem:        Gordon Brown

Grace:            Arthur Retnakaran

Toast to the Queen, Canada and Rotary:  Past President Gerd

Announcements:

Danny Cassidy requests that the scribes transmit the rotateller reporting as a WORD document. Duly noted.

President-Elect Barry reported on the Auction Meeting. There is a requirement for volunteers, including a Warehouse Chair, a Communications Chair, and a Volunteers Chair.

As our Membership Chair, Barry invited us to bring out prospective members to our lunch meetings and social functions.

Marbelous Draw:    Conducted by Gordon, drawn by DG Elect Beth, and won by Frank Allison. The mutant marble eluded Frank, who had to settle for the consolation prize of $5.00.

Sergeant at Arms:

  No fines this week.

Rocco collected happy bucks from many in attendance, including but not limited to

Arthur for blatant plagiarism,

Danny for His holiday in Scotland,

Frank for betting on the wrong horse and winning,

Larry for criticism of our alternate version of the National Anthem,

Beth (she’s already visited 39 clubs)

and

Gerd for a great trip to PEI, following which Dorothy is leaving him with his SPAM.

Guest Speaker:    Gerd introduced our own Danny Cassidy, to tell us about his Ride To Conquer Cancer, and to thank our club for ongoing support.

50% of Canadians will develop some form of cancer in their lifetime, and 25% will die from cancer. There were 206,200 new cancer diagnosis and 80,000 deaths in 2017!

Pancreatic cancer is difficult to treat because it is usually only diagnosed as stage 4. Danny will ride in his 10th Ride next year, and will receive a hat!

Among Danny’s great insights were the great target riders are as Rotary prospects, and the opportunity to raise funds from bike rides.

Frank thanked Danny, and Gerd presented him with a glass for electrolyte intake.

Danny’s presentation is attached. Unfortunately Danny forgot to turn on the recorder so no recording I'm afraid.
