Announcements

Rocco announced that the Club Service meeting would be held on Monday, June 6th, at the Coach House.

President Danny updated us on the RI President-Elect Jennifer Jones’ “Imagine Rotary Canada Tour,”  arriving in Toronto on July 5th. This will include our District 7070 and several other surrounding Rotary Districts. Included will be a BBQ at Edwards Gardens and an event with Kids Against Hunger Canada, where we will pack 117,000 meals to celebrate Rotary’s 117 years! Our club has contributed $2,000 to provide 4,000 meals!

Club Service Director Rocco

He explained how the Club is organized, with regular meetings and the POD system. Club Service has monthly meetings to organize club events, including social events & Firesides.

Director Barry zoomed us to avoid sharing a virus he brought back from visiting Ottawa.

International Service contributes to:
Sleeping “Children Around the World,” an organization started by the Dryden family to provide bed kits to children, including pajamas, Hygiene supplies, etc.

The ‘Adopt a Village” project provides clean water to villages in Laos and constructs schools and sanitary facilities.

The Trinidad “Palliative Care” project provides palliative care facilities, oxygen generators, and tanks.

Trudy’s “Afro Pads” project is under consideration, with encouragement to further develop this to the stage where we can solicit grants from the District, RI Foundation, and other clubs.

J.C.’s water project in Burundi is a great idea but requires additional work regarding sustainability. Steve Rutledge is assisting with this.

Reported on the many things we do to address the needs in our community.
Our club supports food banks, women’s shelters, and many other community-based projects.

Our Warm Hands project has provided 21 elementary schools with mitts, socks, and toques for several years.

We have also supported the East Scarborough Storefront, whose work is focused on the Kingston, Galloway Orton Park areas of Scarborough.

Agincourt Community Services provides services in Scarborough, including food banks, newcomer assistance programs, seniors programs, and many other desperately needed community programs.

Our club also provides two Paul Harris Scholarships valued at $2,000 each to High School students enrolling in post-secondary education.

Our community contributions also supported the Asialicious festival and park clean-ups.

Treasurer Dhanni

Provided an excellent snapshot of the Club’s finances:
As of May 31, 2022, total charitable disbursements were $74,757, including contributions to Community and Youth projects, International Projects, and The Foundation Walk.

The Foundation Walk raises funds which our District contributes to our Rotary Foundation, which provides the funds for our District and the rest of Rotary to “do good in the world.”

President Danny thanked the directors for their presentations and thanked the members of the board for all the help he has received throughout this Rotary year.

Treasurer Dhanni, President Danny, and the rest of our Club thanked all of our donors, who provided the fuel to drive our club before, during, and after the pandemic. Particular thanks were offered to Gerd and Park Property Management. As well as Champ Engineering.

  Alan

.The room filled with trepidation as Alan stood up to be the Sergeant-At-Arms, but he decided that as we only seem to be fining those attending the meeting in person regularly, he wouldn't fine anyone.

And that was everyone's "Happy Thought" ( but no bucks).
