This week our meeting was in two parts. The first being a Zoom Meeting with the Institute for New Suburbanism, which Dave Hardy suggested our club attend for the speaker to be our guest speaker. This was from 12.00pm to 1.00pm and our ‘normal’ meeting started immediately after at 1.00pm. Dave sponsored this speaker.

The speaker Joel Kitkin was introduced – he was speaking from Southern California. Approximately 100 people were in attendance. The topic of his presentation was “Suburbs, Exurbs and the Making of a Human City”. He explained that in recent times most of the growth in European Cities has been in the Suburbs and most of the ethnic growth has also been in the Suburbs. The projection for people working from home after Covid would be that they be working about 2-3 days a week. You can see his presentation on this link:

Announcements:
  • Danny - We were still searching for somewhere to have our Wednesday lunches.
He will be sending out information for the District Conference in May 2022.
The Foundation Walk was held last weekend.
Danny and Ruth will be in Ottawa next Wednesday so President elect Courtney will be
running the meeting. The ‘speaker’ will be the Directors’ reports.
  • Basil - Made an apology regarding his reporting last week. He had stated that Joan Manuel was a guest of Peter Masson – it should of course have been Joan Masson.
  • Arthur – There will be a Community Services meeting tonight.

Sergeant at Arms

Alan Meredith was SAA this week and asked ‘how everyone’s week was’’
  • Gerd told us that Dorothy is studying hard for her pilot’s licence and he had to mow the lawn! It was such an unusual event that a neighbour came out and took a photo of him. He also recommended watching a video made for Prince Philip’s 100th birthday but as he passed away before reaching his 100th birthday it is now a memorial about him.
  • Dhanni reported that one of her tenant’s fridges broke down and all the problems they had trying to get a replacement.
  • Arthur told us that at the Zoo that at the lemur enclosure a stork got in and the stork and lemur had a fight.
  • Mike told us that he had enjoyed a flight in his plane to Parry Sound.
  • Frank was glad that all his injuries are gone and he has been able to spend time with his great grand daughter.
  • Courtney was pleased that his son had come to visit as he told Courtney that he was paying too much for his internet, cable and phone and managed to get a better price for him. He aso reminded us that his Food Bank will be doing a Food Drive on October 9th.
  • Peter told us about the problems that Joan had been having with scam emails. He is hoping the weather will be good on the weekend as his Yacht Club are having a Lobster Fest outside.
  • Basil took his ex-business partner for an enjoyable lunch in St. Jacobs.
  • Gordon was happy that Sue and he were able to host a Board Meeting ‘in person’. The first meeting, other than any family meeting, since the start of Covid.
  • Danny is happy that Ruth and he will be going to Ottawa for a few days next week.
