God of the seasons, there is a time for everything; there is a time for dying and a time for rising. We need courage to enter the transformation process.
God of Autumn, the trees are saying goodbye to their green, letting go of what has been. We, too, have our moments of surrender, with all their insecurity and risk. Help us to let go when we need to do so.
God of fallen leaves lying in coloured patterns on the ground, our lives have their own patterns. As we see the patterns of our own growth, may we learn from them.
God of misty days and harvest moon nights, there is always the dimension of mystery and wonder in our lives. We always need to recognise your power-filled presence. May we gain strength from this.
God of harvest wagons and fields of ripened grain, many gifts of growth lie within the season of our surrender. We must wait for harvest in faith and hope. Grant us patience when we do not see the blessings.
God of geese going south for another season, your wisdom enables us to know what needs to be left behind and what needs to be carried into the future. We yearn for insight and vision.
God of flowers touched with frost and windows wearing white designs, may your love keep our hearts from growing cold in the empty seasons.
God of life, you believe in us, you enrich us, you entrust us with the freedom to choose life. For all this, we are grateful. Amen.
Alan introduced V.P. Danny Cassidy, who stepped in to update the club on his journey with The Scarborough Health Network and provide an update on current SHN programs.
Danny volunteers in the Cath Lab (Cardiac Catheterization Lab.) at Centenary Hospital in Scarborough. He also volunteers in the Cardiac Rehabilitation Program run by SHN at the PanAm Center on Morningside Ave.
Cath Lab:
Duties include:
Maintaining stock availability, patient wayfinding, providing post-procedure food and drinks for patients, folding laundry, and responding to staff requests. To be a volunteer in both of these programs, you have to have had a cardiac event or procedure. This allows the volunteer to share their stories with patients who may be apprehensive about the procedure they are undergoing.
Cardiac Rehab Program:
Duties include:
Directing patients inside the PanAm center, general administration work, demonstrating resistance training, and walking with patients on the indoor track. Again, patients like to ask questions about recovery to someone who has lived their experience. The kinesiologist assigned conducts training in the need for exercise, nutrition, heart health, medicine, and pain identification. Volunteers do not give medical advice; they only talk about their recovery experiences.
All Volunteers must provide a vulnerable persons police report, Have a TB test, and take the same online training as staff on issues such as:
Danny is also a member of the SHN Community Advisory Council, is a Patient Family Advisor, and a member of the PFA Committee.
The following are updates from SHN. It should be noted that while the government pays 90% of costs, !0% must be raised by the hospital foundation. Equipment is not included in government funding.
