Christmas Lunch
Attendance: 26 including 12 guests

President Barry opened the meeting.

Anthem: Mark Ruhnke

Grace: Tony Baker

Toast to the Queen, Canada and Rotary – President Barry

Guests were introduced: Several members had their ‘better half’s’ with them:
  • Peter Masson introduced Joan,
  • Courtney Fisher introduced Sandra Mills,
  • Frank Allison introduced Elizabeth (aka Bette),
  • Basil Dias introduced Dorothy Evans.
  • Gerd introduced Past Member and Past President Kevin Moore who introduced Mark;
  • Barry introduced Past Member and Past President Donna Ryce who introduced her guest Jill.
  • Danny Cassidy introduced Tanya Strachan Manager at Mersey Heating. Danny also told us that Tanya was instrumental the last few years in being able to get a furnace for our Auction. Tanya's dad Bill was Frank's partner when they opened Mersey.
  • Frank introduced Dr. Beauty Ewuruigwe who will be joining our club and she submitted her application.
  • Gordon introduced Emmanuel Tidd, a mortgage specialist with TD who is looking to join one of the Scarborough clubs – he was told, of course, that he was at the best one now. (He will probably attend another meeting in the New Year when it will be a more ‘normal’ lunch.)

Announcements.

President Barry introduced another guest – David Lockett from PACT and presented him with a cheque from the club for $2,000.

Gerd presented Barry with cheques for $300, $3,000 and $500. These were from organizations and people who have an association with Gerd’s company Park Property Management.

Peter advised that he had sent packages to 27 High Schools in Scarborough for the Paul Harris Scholarships.

Basil presented President Barry with a Paul Harris pin with two stones in it – congratulations Barry.

David Seemungal advised that he would be passing around the ‘Club Christmas Card’ for everyone to sign and invited anyone who hadn’t contributed to do so. He will be sending a copy of the card to everyone via Club runner.

Christmas ‘Celebrations.’
Kevin Moore led the ‘celebrations’ with Mark accompanying him on keyboards. Some of the songs: ‘O Come All Ye Faithful’, ‘Away in a Manger’, ‘Joy to the World’, ‘Go, Tell It on the Mountain’ and Silent Night’. Kevin also read some passages from a book by Frederick Buechner – The Remarkable Ordinary.

Barry thanked Kevin and Mark. He reminded us that our next meeting will be on January 8th and it will be the White Elephant Auction. Please bring any ‘unwanted’ Christmas Gifts, wrapped but with no hint as to what they are. They will be auctioned off by our Master Auctioneer – Al Meredith.
Barry then closed the meeting and wished us all a Merry Christmas / Happy Holidays .

Editor's note:
My apologies for the delay. A mixture of stomach flu travel and to top it all the site was not working this weekend.
