Jennifer Mathieu

Jennifer was introduced by President Gordon. She is The territory Manager for Canadian Blood Services and is responsible for ensuring that there are enough Blood donation events to meet the needs of the blood bank in this area. Jennifer joined Canadian Blood Services after a life threatening event that happened to her husband. The blood he was given saved his life which led to the miraculous birth of a baby boy. She wanted to give back and feel that she was making a contribution to society. In the video link below Jennifer explained the need for blood donations and the fact that most people do not know just how much blood is required for operations like by-pass surgery or interventions caused by motor vehicle accidents. The Link is a power point presentation and will open your eyes to how important blood services are.

Announcements:

Arthur thanked everyone who helped with the warm hands project. Everyone showed up at the allotted location and the bags were distributed within 15 minutes. Madhavi also showed up with a container of lamb curry and a piece of pecan pie which was gratefully accepted.
Arthur told us about the fact that his family are contributing to food banks instead of presents. He suggested that a Christmas fund be setup in the club to be distributed to food banks and the Scarborough women's shelter.
President Gordon will be advising membership on how to donate.

Sgt-at Arms:  Basil asked for Happy thoughts from those attending.

Danny. was very happy to see Arthur in the flesh on Saturday when he picked up the warm hands packages instead of always on Zoom.

Franks. Franks great grand daughter took her first steps. Because of COVID they haven't been able to see her much but they got a video of her taking her first 6 steps. Also Franks grandson Tyler got a position with the Magnus Corp. as a computer analyst

Arthur shared a joke which is a little too long to share here. Oh WTH here it is:

After 35 years of marriage, a husband and wife came for counselling. When asked what the problem was, the husband went into a passionate, painful tirade listing every problem they had ever had in the years they had been married. On and on and on: neglect, lack of intimacy, emptiness, loneliness, feeling unloved and unlovable, an entire laundry list of unmet needs he had endured. Finally, after allowing this for a sufficient length of time, the therapist got up, walked around the desk and, after asking the husband to stand, she embraced and kissed him long and passionately as his wife watched with a raised eyebrow. The man shut up and quietly sat down as though in a daze. The therapist turned to the wife and said, 'this is what your husband needs at least 3 times a week. Can you see to it?' 'Well,' she said, 'I can drop him off here on Mondays and Wednesdays but on Fridays I have book club.

Alan had a family get together last week which they really enjoyed.

Barry. Despite Lock down Madhavi came by to drop off a 4 sapphire Paul Harris pin.

Dhanni finished all of her Christmas decorations.

Mandy is happy that her children are all well.

Hans was happy to get a chance to meet everyone and after todays presentation he will try again with blood donations.

Peter is glad that he meets all of the criteria for giving blood so he will give donating a try again and join his sons who also donate regularly.

Gerd gave a very plausible reason for not participating in calling past auction donors ( he's shy )  based on the following Rotary test:

THINK ABOUT IT!

Dave H was happy that a health issue with his daughter has been narrowed down this week. He was out helping her with this the past two weeks in Alberta. Also seeing Mandy on the call he is reminded that the Scarborough Business Council which Rotary had a hand in creating had their 5 year anniversary last week which was a great success. Mandy and Dave were there at the start and Mandy was the first council. Dave thanked Mandy for everything she did to help get this going.

Rocco enjoyed today's meeting which is close to him as his wife Lillian has needed blood. Lillian will watch today's presentation after the meeting. He was also happy that the meetings are going well on line but hopes that we will stay in touch until we can meet in person again.

Courtney was happy that the note he sent out about how to donate to rising sun was immediately answered by Alan so he thanked Alan for his contribution and the club for their help in this. Courtney was also happy that a Hibiscus that he had flowering all summer is still flowering now that he brought it inside.

Basil mentioned the fact that Vince Lobraico had passed and noted his contribution to the Centenary Cardiac care wing. Vince was a member of the club and an honorary member. He and his son Peter were great contributors. Rotary meant a great deal to Vince. Gerd mentioned that Rotary is mentioned prominently in his obituary.  VINCENT LOBRAICO Obituary (1926 - 2020) - Toronto Star (legacy.com)

With no further input for the good of Rotary President Gord concluded the meeting.
