  1. Over 11 million now have it in Canada
  2. There will be up to 14 million to have it by 2027.
  3. Every three minutes a person worldwide is diagnosed with it.
  4. Over 1.5 million have Type 2 diabetes.

Type 2 can be delayed and prevented.  We should visit our doctors regularly to ensure we minimize the risk of getting Type 2.  To prevent or delay Type 2, we should watch our diets closely and exercise regularly (20 minutes per day and 150 minutes week).

Foods should include veggies, grains, and fruits and reduce meats and fats and oils.  We should eat 3 meals per day and eat 3 to 4 of the food groups each meal.  Eat high fiber foods also as they absorb the sugar, etc - which is a good thing.

General symptoms of Type 2 diabetes include:

  • Urination often                                   -           Always Thirsty
  • Overweight                                         -           Always tired
  • Blurred vision                                     -           Numerous infections
  • Cuts & Bruises take longer to heal

Those that have Type 2 diabetes will be affected as follows:

30%     -           will suffer a stroke or blindness
            40%     -           will have a heart attack
50%     -           will suffer kidney disease
70%     -           will suffer eventual leg and foot amputation

Basil thanked the speakers for a very informative and eye-opening presentation.

Mike closed the meeting at 1:45 pm, TILL NEXT TIME.

Quote of the day:

“The medical literature tells us that the most effective ways to reduce the risk of heart disease, cancer, stroke, diabetes, Alzheimer’s, and many more problems are through healthy diet and exercise. Our bodies have evolved to move, yet we now use the energy in oil instead of muscles to do our work.” » David Suzuki
